Secret Proposals

There is nothing quite like capturing the moment a couple gets engaged - the joy, excitement, and pure emotion that fills the air is something truly special to witness. I absolutely love photographing proposals because it allows me to preserve that moment in time for the couple to relive for years to come. I'm not just taking a picture, but rather capturing a memory and the feelings that come with it.

The Beauty of the Unexpected

Are you planning to pop the question? I can help you capture this special moment in a beautiful and memorable way. I believe that capturing genuine moments is the best way to preserve memories, allowing you to relive the emotions you felt during that moment over and over again.

How It Works

Leading up to your proposal, we will go over your proposal plan which will help me to gather details to perfectly capture your proposal. After you decide which way you would like to have the moment captured, I will create a detailed plan so you know exactly when and where to pop the question. After the "YES!," I will give you and your future spouse a few moments to immerse yourself in the moment privately. When you're ready, we will spend the rest of the time creating stunning engagement photos.

How it's captured:

1. The Hideout

The hideout proposal is exactly what you think - I will hideout somewhere discrete to capture the moment. Before your proposal, I will scout the location to test different locations to see which hiding spot works best and give you a precise spot to stand and face during the question to ensure I capture the moment perfectly. I use a long-range lens to capture the moment from a distance, which adds another level of excitement once I pop out of my hiding spot & your future spouse realizes the entire proposal was captured.

This type of photography is great for couples who are proposing in a public place, such as a park or a beach, and want to keep the moment intimate.

Details:

  • 60 Minutes - 20 minutes for arrival/set up, the proposal, and mini engagement session afterwards
  • Location scouting prior to your proposal
  • Location report with images showcasing exactly where I will be, you will stand & face
  • Detailed proposal photography plan
  • Sneak peek images within 48 hours
  • 35 images - Photographers Choice

2. Hiding in Plain Sight

For this type of surprise proposal, I will pretend to be capturing something else until the cue is given and I begin capturing your proposal. For example, I may pretend to be taking photos of the scenery or another client that is "in on it," or my own family and then capture the proposal as it happens.

This type of photography is great for couples who are proposing in a more private location, such as a restaurant or a hotel, or a location with a lot of people around such as a beach, festival or fair. The goal is to blend into the surroundings so your future spouse doesn't suspect anything.

Details:

  • 60 Minutes - 15 minutes for arrival/set up, the proposal, and mini engagement session afterwards
  • Detailed proposal photography plan
  • Sneak peek images within 48 hours
  • 30 images - Photographers Choice

3. Session Surprise

This type of surprise proposal is when the couple plans a photography session and the proposal is incorporated into the session while remaining a secret to the other person. We will begin the session as planned and once a cue is given, you will pop the question. We will plan in advance the prompt I will give to capture the moment in a way that is unexpected, and end the session capturing a mini engagement session while the joy and excitement are fresh.

This type of photography is great for couples who want to have a more formal and structured proposal, and want to capture the moment in a more controlled environment.

Details:

  • 45 minutes of session time including before the proposal, the proposal and mini engagement session afterwards
  • Location guidance and planning
  • Proposal photography plan with cue

FAQ

How long until we receive our photos?

You will receive a sneak peek of 8-10 images within 48 hours. The remaining images will take 4-8 weeks, depending on the time of the year.

What time of the day should I plan for?

Golden hour (1 hour before sunset) has the best lighting, plus the added romance of the sunset.

What happens if it rains?

If there is a 40% chance of rain or extreme cold, I recommend rescheduling or relocating to an indoor location.

What happens if we are running late?

If you are less than 15 minutes late, I allow the session time to be extended up to 15 minutes at no cost. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your session will be the remaining time scheduled - with the option to extend it at my hourly rate if I am able to (no other scheduling obligations).

What do you need from me?

I ask you to send a photo of you and your partner so I know who to look for. I also ask for your proposal plan so I can create my photography plan. If you are unsure, I can work with you to figure out a plan that works best for you.

How do I book?

Inquire using the form above. I will check my availability and get back to you within 3 business days.

To secure your proposal session, I require a signed contract and a 50% non-refundable retainer upfront. The remaining balance is due 7 days before your session. If you book less than 7 days in advance, the entire balance is due upfront.

Do you literally hide in the bushes?

Absolutely! If there is a good shrub to hide in, I'll make it work. If not, we can discuss other ways to keep my location discrete or use another method of capturing your surprise proposal.

Do you have any other tips?

You can share your ETA or location with me so I can track in real time where you are/when you will arrive - since communication is difficult in the hours leading up to the surprise proposal. I also suggest having a good "reason" why you are bringing your partner to the location. Bonus tip: If you can get them to dress up/have their nails done, they will likely appreciate it!

Do you capture weddings also?

Yes! I love when surprise proposals lead to capturing your wedding day. Bonus: If you choose me as your wedding photographer, you will receive a 150$ discount on your wedding package.
